Logbook

All trainees are expected to maintain a surgical logbook.

SET 1 & SET 2

Trainees in SET 1 & 2 can access the logbook relevant to each particular rotation or can maintain a freehand logbook.

SET 3 - SET 5

Trainees in SET 3 - 5 will utilise the Urology Online Logbook Programme. You will be provided with access to this program by the Training & Education Manager at the Urological Society.  You need to familiarise yourself with the function of this program, the procedures recorded and the surgeon status classifications.

You will need to provide a logbook summary to your supervisor each quarter when your assessment report is being completed. This logbook summary will need to be submitted to your TA&E Chair withyour assessment report.

It is important that two issues are understood and applied consistently in the use of this logbook

  • Major operations may be composed of multiple significant parts, so one operation can be recorded as each of the constituent parts (i.e. single patients are recorded as multiple operations within the logbook)
  • The descriptors for surgeon status must be strictly applied when completing the logbook.
