Urologist/s* required for Tamara & Armidale Private Hospitals

Staff Specialist - Urology

Position Details: Staff Specialist (Urology) — The Townsville Hospital. Remuneration value up to $375 072 p.a., comprising salary between $151 177 - $175 602 p.a., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%), private use of fully maintained vehicle, communications package, professional development allowance, professional development leave 3.6 weeks p.a., professional indemnity cover, employer provided accommodation (conditions apply), locality allowance, private practice arrangements plus overtime and on-call allowances etc. (L18-L24) (Applications will remain current for 12 months).

Purpose of the role: The Townsville Hospital is a state-of-the-art tertiary referral hospital and we are seeking a Staff Specialist to provide clinical services in Urology Surgery, to implement and undertake major teaching and educational initiatives and responsibilities within the specialty area, and to provide expert consultancy / advisory services as required. Consultant Urologist - Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne 


The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer and one of an elite group of hospitals worldwide to have its own integrated cancer research program and laboratories. 

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s foremost cancer Centre, an Internationally renowned organisation whose main campus is based in East Melbourne with satellite services at Box Hill, Moorabbin and Bendigo. In 2016 our East Melbourne site will be moving to our new $1 billion home in Parkville as part of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre project. 

The Division of Cancer Surgery at Peter Mac is a rapidly growing, academically-based group of clinicians delivering surgical care to cancer patients. There is a strong multi-disciplinary ethos at Peter Mac and surgeons are active participants in a highly-collaborative tumour-stream structure, together with medical and radiation oncologists, specialist nurses, allied health workers and researchers. The Department of Urology has experienced a period of rapid growth in the past few years with the installation of a da Vinci© surgical system and new appointments at consultant, trainee, nursing and research grades. The Department has an International profile with many academic, research and training interests. 

A position exists for Urologist to work at Peter MacCallum for two sessions per week. Sub-specialist interest and experience in the following areas of urologic oncology is required:

• Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy
• Major open urological surgery including retroperitoneal lymph node dissection and pelvic exenteration
• Low dose-rate brachytherapy

The preferred candidate will also be able to demonstrate commitment to the teaching and the supervision of trainees, and to the academic program within the Division.

The appointed candidate will be a suitably qualified medical practitioner registered as a specialist with AHPRA and have a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent. A higher degree is desirable.

Fellowship Positions

Post graduate fellowship positions are available through institutions in Australia, New Zealand. Fellowship positions are usually for 12 to 24 months to provide post-graduate experience in subspecialty areas relating to urology. Experience gained within these positions is not considered as part of the Surgical Education and Training Program in Urology and does not qualify the individual for the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
