Research Project - Urologist Attitudes to a Novel Ureteric Stent Insertion Device
USANZ Members are encouraged to participate in a multi-stage research project regarding a novel ureteric stent insertion device. The research team are currently seeking participants for Phase 2 of the project.
Project Description
The project looks at the Akeeko Medical Stent Inserter, a medical device that allows a surgeon to perform a ureteric stent insertion in the emergency department or clinic using a smartphone as a display.
The project aims to assess the perspectives and attitudes of urologists to the implementation of a novel ureteric stent insertion device in the emergency department or outpatient clinic.
The hope is to improve patient care by avoiding the need for an operating theatre.
This research has been reviewed and approved by Austin Health Human Research Ethics Committee, ethics number HREC/113825/Austin-2024. The Principal Investigator for this research is Dr Kapil Sethi.
Phase 1
Participants will complete a 20-25-minute interview conducted in-person or online. To explore the perspectives of urologists, the interview is comprised of basic demographic information, provision of novel technology information and participant's opinion with regards to device expectation, clinical impact and training. Taking part in this research study is optional.
Phase 2
Participants will complete a single 10-15-minute survey. To explore the perspectives of healthcare workers, the survey is comprised of basic demographic information, provision of novel technology information and subsequent scenarios.
Taking part in the survey is optional. Participants do not need to have completed Phase 1 to complete the survey.
