Protecting Health Professionals from Scams
The Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is responsible for ensuring the integrity of Government health program payments. The Department supports integrity through the prevention, early identification and treatment of incorrect claiming, inappropriate practice, and fraud.
Tackling illegal activity and behaviour of concern to protect the integrity of Medicare is an enduring compliance priority for the Department. In partnership with Services Australia, the Department is seeking to promote awareness of scams targeting health professionals to gain access to their Provider Digital Access (PRODA) accounts. These credentials are then used in a range of ways for scammers to seek financial benefits they’re not entitled to, including Medicare benefits.
The Department has distributed a factsheet with content on best practice protection for health professionals, including what to look our for to prevent yourself from being impacted by a scam.
USANZ encourages Members to download the factsheet.
The Department has encouraged us to remind Members of the need for vigilance to ensure the integrity of Medicare.
