Spotlight on Urology
Spotlight on Urology takes a look at recent activities undertaken to advance urology around the world. This week, we provide a wrap-up of the ANZUP ASM and recent media coverage, as well as announce the outcome of a recent EOI.
ANZUP Wrap-Up
The ANZUP ASM was held from Sunday 28 to Tuesday 30 June 2026 at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The ASM brought together clinicians, researchers, nurses, allied health professionals, consumers and industry partners to share knowledge, challenge thinking and explore this year’s theme, 'What Matters Most'.
The USANZ Lecture at the ANZUP ASM was delivered by Weranja Ranasinghe, within the Best of the Best Oral Abstracts Session on Monday afternoon. His presentation was titled 'The AUSSIE Study: Preliminary Evaluation of Cxbladder Triage Plus for Urothelial Carcinoma Detection in Patients with Haematuria'. This follows Weranja's presentation on Cxbladder at the USANZ ASM in February, where he was awarded the Best Oncology Presentation.
Other USANZ Members also presented at ANZUP, including Dickon Hayne, who spoke about the ANZUP Bladder Urothelial Penile subcommittee as part of Keynote Session 2 on Monday, and Sophie Plagakis, who was part of the ANZUP Masterclass on Bladder Cancer on Sunday afternoon.
Thanks to ANZUP for these speaker photographs!

Media Update
There has been media coverage following the publication of two new USANZ media releases.
USANZ Female Urology SAG Deputy Leader Sandra Elmer was interviewed by Demi Huang for 7News about the risks of 'holding it in'.
Sandra was also interviewed live on ABC News Breakfast on 23 July.
EOI Outcome
USANZ recently called for Expressions of Interest for the positions of 2028 ASM Convenor and Scientific Committee Chair. The 2028 ASM will be held in Adelaide from Saturday 4 March - Tuesday 7 March 2028.
The Board of Directors is excited to announce the successful applicants.
Matthew Hong will serve as the Convenor. This role involves working with the Scientific Committee Chair and other members of the organising committee to deliver the ASM.
Marlon Perera will serve as the Scientific Committee Chair. This role involves developing the program for the ASM, liaising with the Special Advisory Groups for advice regarding content and faculty.
Both Matthew and Marlon will join the Committee for the 2027 ASM in an 'understudy' capacity.
Congratulations Matthew and Marlon! The Society looks forward to working with you both on this event.
