Spotlight on Urology

Spotlight on Urology takes a look at recent activities undertaken to advance urology around the world. This week, we provide an update on media activity for Bladder Cancer Awareness Month.

Bladder Cancer Awareness Month

During Bladder Cancer Awareness Month this May, USANZ is advocating for faster access to better treatments. A media release was issued on 6 May 2026 and is available to read on the USANZ website: Bladder cancer survival rates haven’t improved as doctors call for faster access to better treatments.

Following this release, several media outlets have covered the topic. A/Prof Weranja Ranasinghe was interviewed by Stephen Cenatiempo on 2CC Talking Canberra Breakfast Radio on 6 May.

Additionally, two articles on bladder cancer have been published online. The Senior shared an article on 6 May: "A tiny 'tingle' was the only early sign Phil had of a deadly disease". This article is available to read online (free login required). On 7 May, Your Life Choices shared an article titled "The cancer going backwards: Why bladder cancer survival is worse than 30 years ago". Read article online.

USANZ thanks Weranja for his expertise on this topic and for representing the Society in discussions with media.
