NSW Section Awards 2022
The NSW Section Meeting 2022 was held at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach from 10 – 12 November. Thank you to the Convenor of the Meeting, Dr Steven Sowter, and the Scientific Convenor, Dr Amanda Chung.
We’re pleased to announce details of the NSW Section Awards, including awards from 2020 and 2021 that were presented retrospectively due to previous COVID-19 disruptions.
The George Schnitzler Award for Best Registrar 2020 was presented to Sunny Nalavenkata, and the award for 2021 was presented to Jonathan Kam. Congratulations to you both.
We also want to congratulate the 2022 winner of the George Schnitzler Award for Best Registrar, Michael Bock. Well done!
The George Schnitzler Award for Best Registrar was named after a former President of the NSW Section, George Schnitzler. In addition to working at Liverpool, Bankstown, Concord and St Vincent’s Hospitals, George was a former Treasurer of the Society (1971 – 1974), and enjoyed the opera.
In further good news, we can also share news about the recipient of the Chris Farrell Award for Best Registrar Presentation 2022. Congratulations to Brayden March who received this award for his presentation titled: Has the pandemic affected trainee surgical exposure? Analysis of operative trends at a high-volume training post.
The Chris Farrell Award for Best Registrar Presentation was named in honour of Chris Farrell. Chris was elected President of the Society in 2000, but sadly became ill before he could take the position and died in July 2000. Chris was known and respected as a key opinion leader in the field of Urology, and served as the Society’s Secretary, CM Chairman, and examiner before being elected President.
