Medicare Integrity Reforms
As part of the 2026-27 Budget announcement, the Australian Government committed funding to strengthen Medicare integrity through new capabilities to better identify and reduce inappropriate practices across Medicare and related health programs.
This work builds on changes introduced as part of the Government’s response to the Independent Review of Medicare Integrity and Compliance (Philip Review). While these changes have established a strong foundation, further action is needed to address ongoing and emerging integrity risks.
Importantly, these reforms focus on delivering better guidance, education and support for providers and practitioners. Using a prevention-focused approach, data and insights will identify potential issues early, enabling assistance where it is needed.
